title page: a single page with the title of the book, the name of the publisher and the name of the author printed under the lining paper. Some books and periodicals print the lining paper and the title page together and bind them (i.e. bobbin pages), which is called the title lining

Folio: folio is a large format book bound into a volume

cover: also known as cover, outer cover, leather, book cover, etc. (Hardcover is called book case). The cover is wrapped outside the book block, which can protect the book block and decorate books. The cover is divided into two parts: the front cover (cover) and the inside (inside the cover), the first and second covers (front cover), and the third and fourth covers (back cover)

breach: the cut of the book page is damaged after the book block is cut

gluing: the part glued on the book post when the book post is glued with scattered pages. Usually take the last folded crease line as the reference line, and apply glue at the edge of the book according to a certain width

Saw Edge: use a saw blade to cut grooves with a certain depth, width and spacing on the back of the book in the vertical direction with the back of the book, so as to facilitate the adhesion of the adhesive to the page

back milling: a process in which the back of the book block is milled or milled into a groove shape with a milling cutter or saw knife to facilitate the penetration of glue

knife marks: uneven knife marks appear on the incision

small pages: pages smaller than the cutting size in the other posts of the book

shrink post: a book post with either side indented into the book block

post line: after manual sorting, the part of the back paper wider than the thickness of the book block. Or after the book is wrapped, the cover bulges at the connection between the back of the book and the cover or back cover, showing a ridge line

white pages: due to printing accidents, one or both sides of the page are not imprinted

page matching: the working process of matching book posts or multiple loose printed pages into books according to the order of page numbers

This processing process is called glazing. Generally, the surface of printed matter such as book cover, illustration, wall calendar, trademark decoration, etc. should be polished

lamination: transparent plastic film is pasted to the surface of printed matter through hot pressing to protect and increase gloss

foil ironing: a processing process in which metal foil or pigment foil is transferred to the surface of printed matter or other objects by hot pressing. It is called foil ironing, commonly known as bronzing, and its purpose is to improve the decorative effect

indentation: use steel wire to press out traces or leave groove marks for bending on the paper by embossing

ring lining: the lining paper connecting the book block and the cover

light book: a book block cut light on three sides

round back: a kind of hardcover. The back of the book is made into a certain arc

plug cloth: a special object pasted on the back of the hardcover book block, the crown and both ends of the foundation

book case: the cover of hardcover books

whole face: also known as comprehensive, the surface material of the book case is a whole piece

joint: also known as half face, the surface material of the book case is not a whole piece. Usually, the cover and back cover are made of one material, and the book waist is made of another material

round raking: the process of processing the back of the book block into a circular arc before putting the round spine hardcover book on the case

ridging: before the hardcover book is put on the case, tighten and compact the book block with a splint, and press a convex mark on the front and back sides of the book block close to the connecting edge of the line between the spine and the ring lining, so that the spine will bulge slightly outward

floating mouth: refers to the part where the book cover shell is larger than the cut of the book block after the hardcover books and periodicals are nested

flat lock: a sewing method in which the matched books are bound into book blocks by strings, and the yarn is arranged in rows between the books
